How to Calculate Sheep & Goats Weight With No Scale

Finding your sheep or goats weight is easy; all you will need is a measuring tape. By measuring the animal’s body length and girth, you will find your animal’s weight. Follow this guide to determine weight:

1)Measure the animal’s circumference as shown in the graphic “letter C” and measure the circumference of the animal’s girth in inches. Make sure to measure girth in relation to the location of the animal’s heart. When measuring a sheep, compress the sheep’s wool to obtain a circumference that reflects the body and not the body plus the wool.

2)Measure the length of the animal’s body, as shown in the graphic “letter A-B.”

3)Now use measurements from Steps 1 and 2, and this formula to calculate animal’s body weight. (Hear Girth x Heart Girth x Body Lenght) / 300 = Animal’s weight in pounds.
